  • 4 Mackerels (Cleaned and cut into 3 pieces each)
  • 4 pcs kokum Dried (solan)
  • 1 green chilli - slit lengthwise
  • 200 ml water
  • 2 tbsp onion finely chopped
  • to taste salt

Grind to Fine Paste:

  • 100 gms coconut Fresh Grated
  • 6 chillies Red - whole
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp tamarind pulp
  • 10 Peppercorns
  • 1/4 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 cup water

  1. Marinate the fish with salt and set aside. Grind all the ingredients with the coconut as listed with water.

  2. In a pan, heat the oil. Add the onion and the slit green chillies and fry until softened. Add the finely ground coconut paste along with water and bring it to a boil
  3. Add the fresh mackerel and the kokum. Let it simmer on low flame for about 5 mins. Season with salt as necessary
  4. Avoid stirring too vigorously as that tends to break and disintegrate the fish. Serve hot with steamed rice.
